SUMMARY:Fleeces from Our Fibershed with Deborah Robson - POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION: – POSTPONEDWe regret to announce that we will be postponing our May 29 spinning workshop\, Fleeces From Our Fibershed with Deborah Robson\, as well as our May 30 Fiber Farm Market. All registration fees will be refunded. \nThis decision\, as difficult and disappointing as it is for everyone\, was unavoidable in light of the unprecedented challenges we face due to the pandemic. We will continue to monitor the situation and to abide by state mandates. We hope to be able to set a new date for our workshop and Fiber Farm Market soon. \n******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** \nRegistrations for Members (Producer – Artisan – Community Supporter) will open at 10 a.m. EST Monday\, February 3. Any remaining spots will be made available to the public on February 17. The cost of the full-day workshop is $125 for Members/$145 for non-Members\, with $10 material cost for all.\nJoin us for a very special spinning workshop with Deborah Robson\, author of  The Fleece & Fiber Sourcebook\, as she guides us through a breed study of some of the flocks found in our NJ Fibershed. \nLet’s explore the wool being grown by sheep in the New Jersey Fibershed. With a half-dozen or so clean fleeces from nearby\, we’ll discuss\, try different preparations\, and spin. While excellent wool is grown here\, and we’ll certainly experience some\, other samples might be wools that would frequently be overlooked but that warrant our attention. Breed-specific and crossbred wools all welcome. The workshop will be held at the teaching studio of Middle Brook Fiberworks\, in Bedminster\, NJ. \nRegistration for members beginning Feb. 3rd\, then remaining spots will be open to the public on Feb. 17\, 2020.  Additional details available on the REGISTRATION PAGE.  Should the  Workshop be cancelled\, the registration fee will be fully refundable.   \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook

SUMMARY:Pasture Management - Graziers’ Toolbox w/ Sarah Flack (Part 3) - FACT Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join FACT (Food Animal Concerns Trust) and grazing expert Sarah Flack for part 3 of a 3-part series on strategies for pasture management.  \nThis session will discuss tools and strategies for pasture improvement. \nEach session in this series requires a separate registration. Register  (registration link also given under event website) \n  \n\n\n\n\nPart 3: The Graziers’ Toolbox – Strategies for Pasture Improvement\n\n\n\n\nTuesday\, March 3\, 2020 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM (Eastern Time)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin FACT and grazing expert Sarah Flack for part 3 of a 3-part series on strategies for pasture management. This session will discuss tools and strategies for pasture improvement.\n \nThis final session will let us put together what we learned in the first two\, and talk about how we can meet livestock  needs while also using their grazing behavior to improve the  pastures. How can we use higher or lower stocking densities\, taller or shorter pre-grazing heights and decisions on how long to leave livestock in the paddock and how much to let them trample it\, or how short to let them graze it as tools to improve pastures so we can avoid expensive inputs and reseeding? By better understanding\, and using these “graziers tools” we can change the pasture plant species composition\, pasture productivity & quality\, soil health\, and livestock performance.  \n\nSarah Flack\, author of The Art and Science of Grazing\, & Organic Dairy Production\, is a nationally known speaker & consultant on grazing and organic livestock. She grew up on a Vermont family farm that used management-intensive grazing and mob stocking\, later studying pasture management at the University of VT. Her approach as a consultant\, writer & speaker is to take a practical approach to applying the science of grazing. Sarah has successfully helped many farmers create positive change in their pastures\, soils\, livestock\, finances\, & farm-family quality of life.    \n\n\n\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook
