SUMMARY:Fiber-Along 2025: Plant Fibers
DESCRIPTION:Register HERE for the 2025 Fiber-Along! \nStarting in January\, we’ll gather together to learn about the wild world of plant fibers! The Fiber-Along is a series of monthly Zoom meetings featuring a different special guest each month sharing their experience of working with plant fibers. Fiber-Along participants work independently on their own projects with their plant fiber of choice\, in their craft of choice. You can participate whether you’re learning to grow or process flax\, or spin cotton\, or knit or weave–as long as it’s 100% plant fiber! Participants are invited to join the Fiber-Along Slack channel to share project notes with the other participants. \nThe Fiber-Along is an educational\, community-building event open to all current NJ Fibershed  members. Not a member? You can join here. We’re offering flexible pricing for the program\, to pay what you can. The registration fee includes a Fiber-Along drawstring tote\, a fiber plant sample pack with ramie roving and New Jersey-grown cotton and flax\, and a blank fiber study note page. Totes will ship in early January. \nMeetings will be held on the third Sunday of each month from January – July\, from 8 p.m. –  9 p.m. \nSchedule of special guests*: \n\nJanuary 19\, Flax                Janelle Wysock\, PA Flax Project\nFebruary 16\, Cotton       Tameka Peoples\, Seed2Shirt\nMarch 16\, Ramie             Youngmin Lee\nApril 13**\, Hemp            Joan Ruane\nMay 18\,  Piña\, Abaca      Lorenza Wong\nJune 15\, Cotton               Melanie Duarte\nJuly 20\, Flax growing    Joan Mruk\nAugust 17\, Cotton            Bec Sloane\, Better Cotton\n\n*Schedule is subject to change\n**Meeting held on the 2nd Sunday due to the Easter holiday \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook

SUMMARY:Member Event: Fresh Leaf on the Farm | Indigo Dyeing - June
DESCRIPTION:Cait’s Dye Studio & Garden \nSunday\, June 29th\n10 am – 1 pm\nWilliamstown\, NJ \nLead by Cait Nolan with assistance from Laura Hricko. In this workshop we will harvest and process the Japanese indigo grown in Cait’s dye garden. Together in the garden-side dye studio we will experiment with a variety of fresh leaf dyeing methods including: ice water\, salt rub and hapazome. As we work\, Cait will demystify the natural chemical processes at play in the transformation from leaf green to indigo blue. Things will get technical but\, don’t worry\, it will still feel like magic. All materials are included in the registration fee including a soy pre-treated cotton bandana (24” X24”)\, a Handwoven Mulberry Silk Bandana 21” x 21”\, raw silk sample and 1 page informational handout. This workshop will be held at Cait’s home dye studio in Williamstown\, NJ (about 30 minutes from Philadelphia). Participants are welcome to bring up to 500 grams of additional fiber to dye. \nRegistration Fee: $95 \nRegistration and more information at www.caitnolanmakes.com. \n  \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook

DESCRIPTION:Join NJ Fibershed for a weekend of fiber immersion located at farms throughout New Jersey on April 27 & 28 from 10AM – 4PM each day! This year 2 South & 2 North NJ Host Farms are participating. \nCome to meet the livestock\, buy some home grown fiber and locally made products!  Meet farmers\, ranchers\, designers\, sewers\, weavers\, knitters\, felters\, spinners\, and natural dyers living and working within New Jersey and neighboring regions. And if that wasn’t enough\, there will be a drawing for NJ Fibershed swag at the end of the Barn Crawl event!  Share your finds with #NJBarnCrawl24. \nWe’ll be doing a NJ Fibershed Fiber-Along again this year.  Fiber-Along 2024 is a free\, open community of makers using items purchased at the Barn Crawl.  Anyone who attends this year’s Barn Crawl can participate.  It’s a chance to share what you’re making due to attending the Barn Crawl with fellow “Crawlers” as well as the makers who produced or influenced what you’re using/ making.  There will be monthly Zoom meetings to share progress on projects\, with a final in person meet up at the October Fleece and Fall Fiber Sale.  Signup info will be provided at each Barn Crawl host farm and please share your project on Social Media using #njfal2024. \nEntry Donation is $5  per person\, good for both days.   As an entirely volunteer run non-profit organization\, we must raise the funds to cover the expenses of everything we do: events\, workshops\, and training sessions.  Your Barn Crawl entrance donations will be used to cover expenses for biosecurity materials for our animals and portable restrooms for farm guests. \nDonations in advance are preferred so farms don’t have to handle cash\, but each farm will provide a QR Code/ url to make a donation via our website for drop-in visitors.\n \nJoin the Fiber Quest!  Make your online entry donation and you’ll receive a Fiber Quest map for this year’s Barn Crawl via email on April 26.   Donations for Barn Crawl 2024 can be made now!  \n  \nFor more info\, see our Barn Crawl 2024 page. \nMeet our Host Farms:\n \n\nJenny Jump Farm – Belvidere\,  Warren County\nSmiling Dog Farm – Lumberton\, Burlington County\nWindswept Acres Farm – Pittstown\, Hunterdon County\nWindy Farm Alpacas – Chesterfield\, Burlington County\n\n \n Meet our Artisans & Vendors \nInfo is up to date as of Feb. 14\, 2024 and subject to change. \n__________________________ \nWould you like to vend?  We’d love your help showcasing local fiber farms and products! \nVending Info \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook

SUMMARY:Community Day - Natural Dye Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a NJ Fibershed Community Day – Natural Dye Workshop on Sunday September 17th 11am-3pm \nCLASS SOLD OUT – please sign up for the waitlist. \nLonging to play with color and connect with the plants and fiber in your local area? She is honored to be the steward of a small piece of land in Baltimore County\, where she has planted many of the native trees\, shrubs\, and herbaceous plants she remembers from her childhood\, as well as many old-fashioned garden favorites. She approaches natural dyeing and eco printing with enthusiasm and sense of exploration. This willingness to follow the question\, “what if …” has led to many happy discoveries about the colors present in the plants found in our gardens and wild spaces. Pamela is happiest in the garden planting\, tending\, or harvesting; in the studio making prints\, creating books or playing with fibers; or when sharing her love of these activities with others. \n  \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook
