Event Navigation

Join us for a NJ Fibershed Community Day – Natural Dye Workshop on Sunday September 17th 11am-3pm

CLASS SOLD OUT – please sign up for the waitlist.

Longing to play with color and connect with the plants and fiber in your local area? Natural dyer extraordinaire Pamela Jenkins will lead a small group of fiber enthusiasts through a day of dyeing where you’ll get to play with fresh indigo dyeing, bundle print dyeing, and solar dyeing as well as learn about locally foraged color. Get a taste of all three of these fun techniques as you connect with the plants that can make color around you.

Bring your own pre-mordanted items to dye (don’t worry, we’ll send instructions when you register) or pre-order local fiber from our Fibershed that will be prepared for you ahead of time so it’s dye-ready on the day. We’ll provide plenty of options of dye stuff to play with, but if you have something from home you want to bring, please feel free.

NOTE: Limited to 12 attendees, members given priority for registration.

About the instructor: Pamela Jenkins grew up in the middle of the woods, wandering amongst trees, along stream banks, and through meadows, listening closely to her grandparents’ and father’s shared knowledge of the plants which surrounded them. She is honored to be the steward of a small piece of land in Baltimore County, where she has planted many of the native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants she remembers from her childhood, as well as many old-fashioned garden favorites. She approaches natural dyeing and eco printing with enthusiasm and sense of exploration. This willingness to follow the question, “what if …” has led to many happy discoveries about the colors present in the plants found in our gardens and wild spaces. Pamela is happiest in the garden planting, tending, or harvesting; in the studio making prints, creating books or playing with fibers; or when sharing her love of these activities with others.
